Controversies• Monkeygate Scandal:
In 2008, Symonds accused Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh of racist comments on the field. He said that Harbhajan called him a monkey in the 2008 New Year Test in Sydney. Harbhajan denied the accusations but was banned for three matches for racial comments. The ban was removed soon. In an interview, Symonds said that he started drinking after the incident because the way it was handled was not correct and he was upset because his teammates were also involved in the controversy. In 2009, he was sent back from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to his alcoholic behavior. His central Cricket Australia contract was torn up, and he never played for Australia again. In 2018, Symonds said that Harbhajan cried while apologizing to him for the monkey gate incident that occurred in 2008. To this, Harbhajan tweeted,

• Removal of AHM advertisement:
In 2020, Symonds was featured in an advertisement for ahm insurance for a marketing campaign for chiropractor cover. In the advertisement, he was shown hip-and-shouldering as a production assistant. The ad was in reference to Symonds hitting a player during a match in Queensland in 2008. There were many complaints against the advertisement stating that it made fun of assault in the workplace. The ad was later removed.
